Considering that we were the leading real-university jobfair provider in Spain for a few years, it only seemed natural to keep up with the changing times and go "virtual". Many Universities were demanding ways of communicating with their students in their own language. However, their alumni networks were geographically dispersed and difficult to reach with real events.
On the other hand, universities need to be innovative to attract the best students. They also need to ooffer interesting careers after graduation, establishing strong ties with the main recruiters in the country.
Our real jobfair network was virtualized, creating the Tour del Empleo Virtual, in wich we were able to include more universities which were previously mpt a part sof the physical network.
By adapting the virtual jobfair to the image and language of each university, we were able to organise six virtual fairs in Fall 08, and now, more than 25 online events are scheduled in 2009.
Technology: Adobe Flex - 3D renderings and animations - instant messages via IRC - Red5 video conference app.
Each virtual university jobfair received an average of 10,000 unique visitors and over 1,500 collected CVs. The project received a lot of local media coverage with crowed press conferences held by the director of each university.
